Toyota Will Build RAV4 Hybrid for 2012

In brief: Jim Lentz, Toyota Motor Sales president, has confirmed that the gas-electric RAV4 crossover will be in the model year 2012 lineup.

Using Toyota's core powertrain with the 1.8L hybrid gas-electric system, the RAV4 Hybrid will be out in the spring of 2012. The hybrid offering will include only the 5-door model.

Although Toyota hasn't given any specifics, the RAV4 could potentially get 30mpg or better (US). It's larger cousin, the Highlander, has a 27mpg (city) mileage in its hybrid configuration.
