Subaru previews its hybrid GT concept in the Tourer
In Brief: In the run up to Tokyo 2009, Subaru previews its notion of a hybrid GT of the future in the Subaru Hybrid Tourer.
Vehicle in the news
Make/Model: Hybrid Tourer
In the words of the manufacturer, Subaru's Hybrid Tourer concept "proposes Subaru's vision of a future grand touring car that excels in environmental friendliness thanks to Subaru's unique hybrid system."
The Tourer features a 2.0-liter Horizontally-Opposed direct fuel-injection turbo gasoline engine and Subaru's Lineartronic (CVT) transmission. The drivetrain is a symmetrical all-wheel drive system with Subaru's hybrid two-motor system: a power/drive motor in the front (max output: 10kW) and a drive motor in the rear (max output: 20kW), juiced by a lithium-ion battery pack.
And so …
Aside from a few bells and whistles, the Tourer doesn't offer much in the way of excitement for GT fans, with the exception of the gullwing doors—a feature that will likely get lost on the way to production.
