Porsche is bringing the next generation of the Cayenne Sports Utility to the Geneva Motor Show in March, debuting the new hybrid drive in full parallel. This new model of the Cayenne will get 28.75mpg (US) and the performance of an 8-cylinder packed into 6-cylinder efficiency.
This model will drop fuel consumption by 23% from older models and will also feature the new Tiptronic S 8-speed automatic transmission which includes Auto Start-Stop (a big factor in the new efficiency).
The hybrid uses a 3.0L supercharged V6 and a 34kW electric motor. The parallel system allows either or both sources to propel the vehicle, with the two units putting out a total combined 380bhp (283kW) and 580Nm (427lb-ft) of peak torque.
All-electric, the Cayenne S can travel up to 37mph for short distances.
And so ...
Interesting. Many manufacturers of hybrids are going towards the Volt model of parallel propulsion.
