Make/Model: Buick Envision (concept)
The SUV is equipped with a 2.0L SIDI intelligent direct turbocharged engine and two electric motors/generators as well as an 8-speed auto/manual transmission. The SUV is all wheel drive (AWD).
The Envision runs solely on electric power at low speeds and features start/stop as well. A solar paneled roof and a high-performance lithium battery pack provide power under these conditions.
During higher speed or uphill (and similar) loads, the engine will propel the vehicle with the electric motors acting as an assist.
The vehicle is clearly meant for the Asian market, which allows for a lightweight chassis of carbon fiber, magnesium and aluminum.
Probably most unusual is the Envision's MRC electromagnetic suspension with energy recycling, which would be one of the fastest magnetic ride control systems in the world. Damping is actively regulated according to road conditions in order to provide optimum handling.
