VW Introduces New Sharan Van with Start-Stop and Energy Recoup
In brief: This 3rd generation of the Sharan Van from Volkswagen features two diesel and two gasoline engine options with higher efficiency, plus start-stop and regenerative braking as well.

The popular van is getting a makeover both outside and in. On the outside, body improvements including extra accessibility through sliding doors have been added. Under the hood, four new engine options and other technology to ad up to 21% to fuel efficiency.
Both gasoline options are TSI (turbo injected) engines delivering 148hp and 197hp. The TDI (turbo diesel) engines give 138hp and 168hp respectively. Both increase efficiency by nearly 21% and lower emissions by a similar amount. All are Euro-5 engines.
All four engine options include start-stop systems for anti-idling as well as energy recouperation (regenerative braking). The recoup system stores power in teh battery to take weight from the alternator as well as to power the vehicle and starter when stopped.

These are also the first Sharan vans to include the new Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) as an option.
