Mitsubishi Launches RVR Compact Crossover with Efficiency Electrics
In brief: Mitsubishi has launched the RVR compact crossover in Japan with the European model, called the ASX, to debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
Vehicle in the news
Make/Model: RVR / ASX
Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Motors
The RVR features a high-efficiency 1.8L 16-valve MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control) engine. The engine has INVECS-III (Intelligent and Innovative Vehicle Electrinic Control System) sport mode and features regenerative braking, electric power steering, improved aerodynamics, and the ability to beat Japanese FY2010 fuel efficiency requirements by 15%.
The engine puts out 172Nm/127lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpms and gets 35.8mpg US or 35.3mpg in 4wd models. The regenerative braking system sends electricity to storage, where it is held and used for engine needs and power steering until depleted.
When energy is stored, the alternator goes into neutral, drawing little drag from the engine. This saves engine power use which would otherwise be needed for power steering and electric generation.
And so ...
Interesting concept and it's now on sale in Japan.
