Mercedes New C-Class Models Feature GDI, 6-speed Trans, and Start-Stop
In brief: Mercedes-Benz is introducing new C-Class BlueEFFICIENCY options featuring 4-cylinder gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines coupled with 6-speed manual transmissions and featuring start-stop, all of which results in 10% better fuel economy.
Drive Train in the news
The C-Class C180, C200, and C220 models will also feature the new BlueEFFICIENCY options. A new addition to the lineup is the C250 four wheel drive drive train as well.
The start-stop (called ECO Start/Stop) is already active in BlueEFFICIENCY automatic transmission powertrains, but is now being introduced into the manual transmission drive trains for the first time.
The start-stop works whenever the vehicle is below 5mph, the driver has shifted to neutral, and brakes are being applied. These are stopping conditions (stop lights, signs, parking).
The engine automatically restarts when the clutch pedal is engaged or the accelerator is pressed. An indicator on the instrument cluster notes when the engine is stopped.
And so ...
Teh C250 CDI 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY is a diesel engine variant with four wheel drive and a larger power rating.
