Mazda Demio SKYACTIV

The car has received a facelift for the new model and is known here in the U.S. as the Mazda2. It is in pre-sales in Japan and will begin appearing in showrooms at the end of June.

The new SKYACTIV engine is a GDI (gasoline direct-injection) and includes i-stop, Mazda's anti-idling solution, as well as a CVT (continuously variable transmission). It achieves 30mpg (US) on the Japanese 10-15 cycle and 25mpg on the JC-08 cycle. This compares to the Toyota Prius S at 35.5 and 30.4mpg respectively. The Prius S sells for about $10,000USD more than the Demio.

And so ...

Very nice numbers from Mazda on this little car.
