Get Ready for the 600hp Mustang Shelby GT500
If there was any doubt that we are in the midst a modern-day muscle car renaissance, it was erased with the revelation that Ford is planning a 600-horsepower Mustang.
4 Wheels News reports that according to Car and Driver sources, Ford is preparing to introduce a 2013 Shelby GT500 that generates 600hp, and possibly as high as 620hp.
The power will come from a 5.8 liter engine, replacing the 5.4 liter engine in the current GT500. That motor puts out a mere 550hp.
However, when Chevrolet announced a month ago that the 2012 Camaro ZL1 would deliver the same 550hp, Ford apparently could not help but up the ante.
The current GT500 can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. The new engine is expected to achieve that speed in less than four seconds. The GT500 can also exceed speeds of 190 mph.
