Ford Fiesta wins 2012 MPG Marathon at 108.78 MPG
In brief: The Ford Fiesta ECOnetic 1.6 TDCi has won the 2012 ALD Automotive/Shell FuelSave MPG Marathon in Britain with an impressive 108.78 mpg over a 370-mile route.

The annual race is an event in which manufacturers in the United Kingdom attempt to score the highest miles per gallon score over a fixed course of real-world driving. The Ford racing team took the Fiesta ECOnetic 1.6L through the 370 miles of hills and unpredictable traffic in South Wales and the Cotswolds to gain a final MPG score of 108.78 average. The Fiesta's official European combined fuel consumption is 85.6mpg.
One other vehicle beat the 100 mpg barrier out of 27 total vehicles participating in the race. Ford's Focus Titanium and Transit Custom T270 also took part in other categories of the same race, achieving 61.93 mpg and 56.04 mpg respectively.

The Ford Fiesta ECOnetic 1.6 will be introduced in the U.S. next year.
