Chrysler to Offer 8-speed and 9-speed Transmissions in Mid-2011
In brief: Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne spoke to dealers at the 2010 Chrysler Group International Dealer Announcement Show last week and said the company will be rolling out 8- and 9-speed transmissions in mid-2011.

The announcement comes at a time when Chrysler is still having a tough time staying up after its bankruptcy and the public's perception of their lack of innovation.
This move means that Chrysler vehicles with the new transmissions could see up to 20% in fuel economy improvements.
The 8-speed transmission will be put into rear-wheel driven vehicles while the 9-speed will go into front-wheel driven vehicles.
