First U.S. Mercedes FCV Lease Issued to Hollywood Executive

In brief: The first lease for a Mercedes-Benz F-CELL has been given to the Executive Director of the Producers Guild of America, Vance Van Patten.

The word

After the announcement earlier this month that Mercedes was going into limited production for the F-CELL hydrogen fuel cell sedan, leases began to be applied for. Now, the first of those leases has been granted.

The vehicles will begin delivery in 2012, a total of 70 in all. The F-CELL has a range of about 240 miles and gets the equivalent of 54mpg - roughly equivalent to the Honda Clarity FCV.

Van Patten is a mogul who's worked at several television studios overseeing production on such shows as Law & Order, the Hercules and Xena series, and The Arsenio Hall Show, among others.

Leases for the F-CELL are currently limited to Southern California (qualify here). Over 100 of them will also be leased in Europe at the same time.

And so ...

The lease price is much higher than the Clarity's, but the car is a Mercedes, obviously.
