AVL Presents Fuel Cell Commuter at Expo Shanghai

The Austria Tech Week showcase, part of Expo Shanghai 2010, will feature the AVL FCC, a commuter vehicle that features a fuel cell range extender on an electric golf cart-like commuter car.

The main advantage, AVL says, is the refuel time. Charging a battery electric car requires hours whereas refueling hydrogen tanks takes minutes.

The technology behind the FCC is from research done in conjunction with Tongji University. AVL also sponsors an advanced laboratory in Shanghai Tech for advanced batteries.

AVL is based in China and has been in business for more than 30 years.
