VW Presents Electric Milano Taxi Study

In brief: Volkswagen unveiled the Milano Taxi concept and plans production as early as 2013. The MPV is tailored specifically for taxi use.

The word

The Milano Taxi will have a top speed of 75mph, will have an all-electric power train with an 85kW motor (peak, continuous at 50kW) and a 45kWh lithium-ion battety pack in the underbody.

Range will be up to 186 miles per charge and the car has a low vehicle weight of only about 3,300 pounds due to advanced framing and composite use.

The door on the passenger side opens very wide, thanks to a new mechanism using two-axis kinematics giving a large opening for passengers.
