Vintage Volvos Get EV Modernization in Washington
In brief: X-Ray Auto in Ballard, Washington specializes in the service and restoration of pre-1975 Volvo vehicles and is now offering electric drive train conversion for them as well.
Matt Pollitz, who owns the shop, met Kent Bakke, a member of the Seattle Electric Vehicle Association (SEVA). They talked about Bakke's pending project to convert a 1965 P544 to electric and Pollitz was brought on as an expert for the classic car.
Over a long weekend, the car was converted and Pollitz was sold on EV conversions being a way to make a classic car something more.
"Converting an older vehicle isn't like building from scratch," he says. "There's a reason these cars have been running 40 years."
And so ...
Very cool and definitely the way I'd like to see classic cars see a second life.
