Smart ForTwo Electric Drive Finally Comes to the U.S.
In brief: The long-awaited Smart ForTwo electric has finally made its debut in the United States and Penske Automotive Group will launch a program this fall for lease of the diminutive EV.

The initial fleet will only include 250 vehicles in key cities nationally, with the first cars arriving in October. Series production for consumer sales begin in 2012 with the 2013 model year.
The Smart ForTwo EV offers 82 miles of range and highway speeds with a charge time of less than 8 hours (to full).

A couple of years ago, Daimler enjoyed a lot of hype and anticipation for the Smart electric. Now, the car has been outclassed by rivals at Nissan and others.
