Rav4 Electric Vehicle to be Sold to Public
Toyota said on Wednesday that the all-electric version of its Rav4 SUV will indeed be sold to the public.
PlugInCars.com reports that Toyota was refuting an earlier report that the 2012 Rav4 EV would only be sold on a fleet basis to private businesses or car-sharing programs.
Toyota has been slow to get into the all-electric car business, but the auto industry views this announcement as a sign that Toyota sees a future in electric vehicles.
Toyota also released details of its agreement with electric car maker Tesla. Tesla will supply all charging, software, and powertrain components for the Rav4 EV to the tune of $100 million from Toyota.
That is in addition to a $50 million deal announced last year between Toyota and the California-based Tesla.
