Porsche Developing EVs With 3 Electric Boxsters Slated

The word

While Porsche already has hybrid concepts in production, the company is also aiming towards an all-electric model with test mules planned for the Boxster series. Dr. Ing. h.c.F Porsche AG is heading up the Stuttgart research into EVs.

The three Boxsters are not necessarily the final model that will become electric, but they will provide test beds for insight into the expected performance and various electric drive components needed, according to Porsche's Michael Macht, CEO.

Both the 911 GT3 R Hybrid and the Cayenne S Hybrid are already in production, as will likely be the plug-in hybrid Porsche 918 Spyder concept.

And so ...

The Boxster test vehicles with electric drive trains will likely be driving on the road in early to mid-2011.
