Optimal Energy Takes Delivery of Joule EVs for Marketing Fleet

In brief: The South African company Optimal Energy has taken delivery of the first four Joule EV (electric vehicles) for use as a marketing fleet to promote the company's concept.

The word

The company has made good on its promise from September to have prototypes of their Joule EV on the road by the end of the year. This marketing fleet will be used to promote sales of the electric car, beginning with a 2011 nation-wide road show through South Africa.

The cars were hand built by Hi-Tech Automotive in Port Elizabeth and have undergone laboratory and track testing before being released to Optimal Energy.

Each vehicle is expected to cover about 62,000 miles on public roads for this road show tour and on-road testing event. The prototype Joule EV accelerates from 0-60km/h (0-32mph) in under 5 seconds and have a top speed of 140km/h (87mph).
