The electric car is currently undergoing design and Motive Industries plans to have a prototype for testing later this year. The car will include an all-electric drive train and body panels and other components made from biocomposites based on hemp.
The Canadian design company is working with Alberta Innovates Technology Futures (AITF), who will be building the composite parts and sourcing raw hemp from an industrial hemp farm in Vegreville, Alberta.
The hemp-based biocomposites are similar to fiberglass, are entirely renewable, and can be locally-sourced. Some interior components will also be made from hemp.

Motive plans to have the prototype on the road this year for testing, but has made no announcement as to projected production for the Kestrel.
