KB Homes Will Outfit New Homes With EV Charging in Mind
In brief: KB Homes, one of the nation's largest homebuilders in the southern and southwestern United States, has announced that they will be offering pre-wired electric vehicle charting units and circuitry in their homes.
The home builder says that adding the additional wiring and circuit to a new home build is about equivalent to installing a 220V outlet in the garage - or about $250. Retro-fitting older homes, by comparison, can be expensive, with costs depending on the work needed to string new wiring and ad a circuit - up to $10,000 in some cases.
KB anticipates that many home buyers building from scratch will want EV charging built-in if not for themselves, then to ad to the future value of the home for resale.
And so ...
Because of the low cost of a new installation, they're likely correct.
