High School Students Convert Old Tractor to Electric
In brief: A high school class in Texas lays claim to being the first to convert a farm tractor to all-electric operation.
The Agriculture class at Bonham High School in Bonham, Texas has converted an old Ford tractor to electric drive, complete with solar panels on the canopy top and can also plug into the grid for recharge.
The tractor can operate for about three hours (with implements) on a charge and uses donated Interstate Batteries and components from other businesses around the community.
The class now plans to convert the school's broken down riding mower to electric drive so it can see new life in the maintenance department.
The community donates old car batteries to the school, which Interstate then trades for credit towards new ones for class projects.
