Chevrolet to Give 4,400 Volt Owners Free 240V Home Charging Stations
In brief: General Motors has announced that the first 4,400 buyers of the Chevy Volt range-extended electric will be eligible for a free 240-volt home charging station from ECOtality or Coulomb Technologies.

The charging stations will be paid for through grants from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as part of the Transportation Electrification Initiative from the U.S. Department of Energy.
The grants cover more than 15,000 home charging stations, with each manufacturer producing a qualifying charging station being eligible for money. For the Volt, 2,600 stations from ECOtality and 1,800 from Coulomb's ChargePoint America will be granted.
The programs require the owner to allow study data to be collecting from the stations to collect information on EV usage in the real world. Only certain program cities will have the grant money available, however.
And so ...
The Volt includes a standard 120V household outlet charge cord.
