Audi to produce stunning R4 electric supercar

Bouyed by the overwhelming response at the recent Frankfurt Auto Show to its e-tron electric supercar, Audi has announced it is going ahead with a production version of the vehicle, which will be known as the Audi R4, and consumers could see it hit the road in 2012.

The R4 electric supercar comes equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack and an elecrtic motor in each wheel, helping it achieve a 0-to-60 acceleration speed of under 5 seconds, an all-electric range of around 155 miles, and a top speed reaching 140 mph.

And so …

Audi intends to build an R4 with an electric powertrain as well as a regular gas version. Seems safe to think we'll see the latter first. Either way, this is one beautiful sports car. Price point remains unknown at this point, but for the time being nobody should be looking under six figures.
