Audi e-Tron to Have Limited Production of 1,000 Units

Audi has confirmed that they plan to build the e-Tron electric supercar, which is based on the R-8 platform, and will have the car in showrooms in 2012. It will be limited to only 1,000 units, however, so it will likely sell out when it goes into pre-sale sometime in late 2010 or early 2011.

Audi did not give a reason for the limited production numbers, but given the likely price tag for the e-Tron (somewhere close to $160,000 is the educated guess of most pundits), it's not an unreasonable production goal. The Tesla Roadster has been available for purchase for over a year and has yet to sell that many vehicles.

Very interesting and it's good that Audi has finally confirmed that they will be building this EV.
