Aptera Co-Founder Starts New Electric Lineup
In brief: Co-Founder of Aptera, Chris Anthony, has begun a new venture with his Epic Boats company, which is now designing land-based vehicles for recreation along with new partner Caddo Manufacturing.
Vehicle in the news
Make/Model: Torq, Amp
Manufacturer: Epic Boats / Caddo Manuf.
The vehicles are barely in the prototype stage and the companies are already hiring employees to fill out a new manufacturing line for the ATVs, claiming several orders are already ready to be filled.
The Torq (above) is a 200hp, 3-wheeled dune buggy-style vehicle made for both on and off road driving. No performance figures were given, but the battery pack will be Lithium-iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) at 24-30kWh.
The Amp, meanwhile, is a more or less standard side-by-side ATV-style dune buggy with four wheels. It operates on 54hp and is an off-road-only ATV. It is capable of about 50mph and its 14.4kWh pack (also LiFePO4) gives about 60 miles of range. It's 10 inches of ground clearance and independent suspension round out the off-road capabilities.
The Amp is scheduled to begin limited production later this year, according to news from Louisiana local news station KSLA (video here).
And so ...
Very interesting and fast-paced developments from a leader in the electric vehicle world.
