A123 Systems Chosen to Supply Batteries to Smith Electric

A123 Systems PrismR

In brief: Smith Electric Vehicles has chosen A123 Systems for a production agreement to supply battery modules for Smith's line of electric commercial vehicles.

The word

A123 Systems PrismR3 Battery Pack

A123 will be supplying its 5kWh automotive-class prismatic modules (pictured) to Smith for integration into battery packs on Smith's electric trucks, such as the Newton, beginning in the second half of 2011.

The Smith Newton, in which the batteries will first appear, is a 7.5 ton - 15 ton electric vehicle which has been adopted by companies like Frito-Lay, Staples, Coca-Cola and others.

A123 Systems is based in Watertown, Massachusetts and Smith Electric is based in Kansas City, Missouri.

And so ...

A123 continues to grow and both companies are in the front lines of the new electric automotive age.
