ISE Corp Offering CNG Series Hybrid System for Buses

In brief: ISE is now offering a "battery-dominant" compressed natural gas (CNG) hybrid system meant for transit buses with delivered units expected in 2011.

The word

The "battery dominant" (series hybrid) drive train has a CNG engine acting as a generator for an electric drive system. This setup saves up to 40% of the fuel that a pure CNG-powered bus would use, allowing the vehicle to lessen its fuel load and thus weigh less.

The engine is the popular and well-vetted Ford V10 CNG, which also weighs 1,000 pounds less than diesel-converted CNG engines commonly used. It fully complies with EPA CO₂ and NO_x and particulate (PM) emissions requirements.
