GM Launches CNG Chevy Aveo in India
In brief: General Motors India has launched a compressed natural gas (CNG) version of the Chevrolet Aveo mid-sized sedan for the Indian market.
Vehicle in the news
Make/Model: Aveo CNG
Manufacturer: General Motors
The word
The Aveo CNG is a duel-fuel vehicle that runs on either CNG or petrol (gasoline). On CNG, the car's running cost is about 54% less than on petrol. GM announced that the time is right for the CNG car because India has been seeing a growing number of CNG refueling stations across the country.
The car has been re-engineered at the factory to handle the extra weight of the CNG cylinder, the added components to the engine, and so forth, making it an industry-first, GM says.
The computer-controlled injectors are critical to the success of the new GM engine, which operates in both CNG and petrol-burning modes.
And so ...
Very innovative and a good market to test the concept in, as India has a relatively large number of CNG users.
