Auto X-Prize Continues Narrowing Competition, Only 4 Mainstreamers Left
In brief: The Progressive Automotive X Prize continues with the Knockout Phase of the competition, as six more vehicles fail to make the cut, leaving only four competitors in the mainstream competition.
The word

There are now 17 cars left in the competition, only 4 of which are in the mainstream class. These are all that's left of 111 entrants last year and 43 who actually made it to Michigan for the final stages.
There are only 14 teams left, some of whom have more than one car entered. Mainstream teams include Edison2 (with 2 cars), Illuminati, and a converted focus by high school kids in West Philly.
Knockouts continue this week as the competition narrows for the finale later this fall. All tests so far have been conducted to test the safety, maneuverability, and efficiency of the vehicles in question.
And so ...
Many of the tests so far have been conducted with the help of Consumer Reports.
