Volvo Recharge
With the aide of British electromagnetic specialists PML Flightlink, Volvo has put together a dynamite powertrain that offers enough mileage on the battery alone to make the gas engine little more than a security blanket—the perfect means of weaning us all off of gasoline and other fossil fuels.
Milner ElectricCar
The 4-seat, 4-door PHEV, Milner ElectriCar is set to premiere, along with its cousin the AirCar, at the New York Auto Show in March of 2008. According to the company web site, the ElectriCar’s prototype is coming along well, although it may be offered initially as a kit car.
Venturi Astrolab
French car maker Venturi’s 2-seater tandem vehicle relies on photovoltaic cells coated by a film of nano-prisms to concentrate solar energy to recharge its NiMH batteries. Delivery has been set for early 2008.
The VentureOne
The VentureOne is a fully-enclosed, two-passenger, three-wheeled tilting vehicle that uses patented engineering called Dynamic Vehicle Control (DVC) to allow the vehicle to tilt side to side as much as 45 degrees. Venture has plans for two different propulsion systems: a gas/electric hybrid (Venture e50 and Venture Q100) and an all-electric system (Venture EV).
Bricklin EVX/LS
Visionary Vehicles is dedicated to bringing PHEVs to the world. Along with the as-yet-unnamed EVX/LS, the company’s initial product line features another four PHEVs models: a 5-Door, 7-Passenger Crossover, a 2-Door, 4-Passenger Hardtop Convertible, a 5-Door, 8-Passenger All Utility Vehicle, and a 2-Door, 2-Passenger Convertible Sports Coupe.
BYD F6DM Sedan
In January 2008 at the Detroit auto show, Chinese car maker Byd Automobile Company will present its F6DM (“Dual Mode”) Sedan. When it goes into production later that year, it will be the finest Plug-in Electric Hybrid (PHEV) on the road—because it will be the only specifically-designed PHEV on the road.
Fisker Karma
The Fisker Karma is the so-called “sexy green car” of the “green American premium car company” (all Fisker-crafted appellations), Fisker Automotive. CEO Henrik Fisker, founder of Fisker Coachbuild, has once again proven his auto design eminence because the Fisker Karma is his Venus di Milo.
