Electric Car Advantages
As zero-emission vehicles at the tailpipe, they are an extremely attractive option over conventional fuel vehicles. While the energy they use is created at a plant using fossil fuels, the argument is often made that those emissions are better expelled at a plant, under controlled conditions, rather than at the tailpipe, where such issues as cold engines and user variability can’t be controlled.
In the US, there are a number of possible financial incentives attached to buying a BEV, including tax credits, cash rebates, free re-charging, and free parking in select areas.
Electric Car Disadvantages
Currently, BEVs lack a substantial driving range per battery charge. Estimates put its range at anywhere from 50 to 100 miles. They also suffer from low speeds, typically reaching speeds no higher than about 50 mph. As a result, their use is limited to local destinations (thus the term NEV mentioned above).
