Solar Cars: Is there a workable model?

From what I have seen there has been no real serious break through on pure solar powered car. Of course there is always the university solar racers, but they really aren't practical for the consumer and that's really what is going to drive the advancement of the future cars.

I'm afraid we just aren't close on this one. It's too bad, but it is just not workable in any mass vehicular way.

I'll take it back.  There is one model that has promise and as I read over its stats I am beginning to believe this could be the breakthrough: The Venturi Astrolab
