MIT pushes the tech surrounding solar energy

Good Article: We may have great solar energy earlier than we think: "The work, to be reported in the July 11 issue of Science, involves the creation of a novel "solar concentrator." "Light is collected over a large area [like a window] and gathered, or concentrated, at the edges," explains Marc A. Baldo, leader of the work and the Esther and Harold E. Edgerton Career Development Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering. As a result, rather than covering a roof with expensive solar cells (the semiconductor devices that transform sunlight into electricity), the cells only need to be around the edges of a flat glass panel. In addition, the focused light increases the electrical power obtained from each solar cell "by a factor of over 40," Baldo says." Thanks for sharing. The main issue has been storage of the energy. This will hopefully take the tech to the next level.

I see A situation where solar

I see A situation where solar is used is to harness the power for the grid and electric cars just run off that. That is already feasible and makes more sense than trying design a workable solar car.

That is my perspective as

That is my perspective as well. The system will have a primary energy source and a propulsion source.

I don;t think Solar is the

I don;t think Solar is the answer. Its efficiency is hard to judge.

As much as I agree SarahT it

As much as I agree SarahT it is worth test and working on, because other technologies and future car advancements can come out of working on solar energy first as a primary source where it is very efficient and also as the fuel for cars where it is not efficient, yet can teah us much about propulsion alternatives.
