Mass producing Lithium-ion Batteries for EV's and Hybrids

Nissan and NEC are joining together to make lithium batteries. They will be investing about 1.1 billion dollars in a joint venture called Automotive Energy Supply Corp; the new company will produce lithium-ion batteries to supply about 200,000 electric and hybrid vehicles by 2010.

Right now their factory is in Japan, but the companies may add manufacturing facilities in Europe and the U.S. to increase the efficiency of local markets. The partnership is very interested in making deals with Better Place and other EV test programs
