Affordable Electric Cars
The one drawback to electric cars (well two, if you include the fact that they can't go very far without needing to recharge the battery) is that they are very expensive. Are there any affordable electric cars?
The Tesla Roadster, the coolest of all all-electric cars, sells for $109,000.
The Chevrolet Volt, which also has a gas engine, will set you back $40,280.
And the MSRP for the Nissan Leaf is $32,780.
Even very small cars that are really only suitable for short trips in urban areas are expensive.
The little Smart Fortwo electric vehicle goes for a whopping $44,837 - $47,650.
The Wheego LiFe, which is similar to the Smart car, sells for $32,995.
As far as affordable cars, a three-wheeled electric car called the Triac is expected to hit the market soon with an MSRP of $24,995 -- still not cheap.
So no, there aren't any affordable electric cars out there. But if you are truly committed to the environment and have some extra cash, you may want to invest in one of the more expensive ones.
